"In normal years or Elemental years? Desumo asked. " We live a long time but age at a slow rate so we tend to refer to our life span as Elemental years. It's proportional really."

"Both?" she asked, having no idea what the span of an 'Elemental year' would be. "I don't know... You know me well enough by now to know I like getting all kinds of different information."

"Normal years only descibe our true age, the amount of years since the time we were born. While Elemental years descibe our appearance and physical age, the age our bodies work. The Elemental age is only to flatter ourselves realy." Desumo explained. " For instance, while my body appears and works as if it were 20, in actuallity its been 70 years since my birth."

"Seventy? Woah!" she exclaimed, blinking. "Wow...you must know a lot more than I do then. And I thought I was smart? I'm only thirteen...almost fourteen though."

"Oh, you would think. You forget i said age proportionally so only a couple of those decades have had good reasoning and learning. Besides, you has access to information and stories i didn't."

"Ah... well I've just grown up crazy I guess," she laughed, a grin covering her features again. "Or more-so sometimes. ...All my friends are nuts!"

She laughed. "I just mean they're really fun to be around. We used to chase our pet polar bears around and roll down hills... One of them suggested we try sliding down a patch of ice. I tried and ended up stuck inside of a snow bank!"

" That must not have been fun. How long were you stuck?" Desumo asked. He was starting to think that Hoku sounded fun. It woulld be nice to see true snow for once.

"Hmmm," Esse thought. She giggled again before replying. "I think they left me there for like an hour before they finally pulled me out. They being my two friends and my best friend." He's getting a little curious himself now... I guess he's never even heard what life up in Hoku is like.

" These polar bears, how do you play with them when they're more than twice your size?" Desumo asked. Unlike most Hoku stuff, he had seen a polar bear before and was quite curious how the whole pet situation played out.

"Well as they grow up they grow to be your friend. You trust them and they trust you. Sure playing gets rougher when they're older but eventually the bond becomes so strong they wouldn't hurt you at all even if they really tried. I have my own... He probably misses me."

" I never really had a pet, animals usually fear Elementals for their powers." Desumo said with a glanced at the pegicorns. " Rarely does a Elemental get close enough to an animal for it to gain pet status."

"I just have a way with animals... I've grown up around them. My parents actually own about five bears. We also take care of sick ones that people bring in. Call them healers if you want to. While they do that, I've helped a few times. I preferred to play with my ice blades though."

"Ever wonder what the future would have held if you didn't leave?" Desumo asked. By now he was highly curios about Hoku and what was like there.
