Star looked up at the castle with a straight back, lightly on her toes, ready to move whenever was needed, ready to run if that would save her life. Star wasn't a coward, but she wasn't stupid either. She wanted to learn, and to hone her powers, until she could beat those who she had run away from originally. That wasn't to say that there weren't many she couldn't beat. Her blade had a power of it's own, and could channel dark power with incredible accuracy.
She took a few steps forward, and knocked on the towering doors. Her journey had brought her here, to the center of all darkness, to find out more about her father, and to teach the people with the fear of things unknown a lesson. Her resolve strengthened she knocked again louder.
She straightened her dress, and shook her long fringe out of her eyes. The thick black band around her waist held her sword, and she slipped her hand around the hilt, holding it tight. She felt herself connect with the Dark Magic the blade was forged with, and pulled a few threads of power, just for comfort. She rocked on the balls of her feet as she waited.

A silver dragon of massive size opened the door, glaring downwards with narrowed gold eyes. She growled and folded her wings, obviously annoyed. "Another failure coming to try their luck?"
She heaved a sigh. "Well don't just stand there like a blithering idiot, get in here!"
Honestly I don't know why I even bothered to open the stupid door... just another foolish kid who thinks they can be an asset to Lord Amett.

Star bowed her head respectfully to the giant dragon, thinking quickly as she walked in the door. She knew that there were times for attitude, but also times for respect. And she did respect the dragon, because she knew that Amett wasn't stupid either.
Amett wouldn't accept any old fool into his team. I need to prove I will be an asset to him, just like the others he has already excepted. I wonder what the test will be, I hope I'm good enough... I know I'm good enough.
She looked at the dragon again, and then suddenly realised who she was looking at. She didn't say anything aloud though, but continued walking into the castle. Surely this giant silver Dragon must be Flame, Amett's apprentice.

Flame slammed the door shut with her tail, the great sound echoing through the halls. "Alright, first thing's first... Keep your mouth shut and snide comments to yourself. Any adressing me should be by 'Flame' but in a respectful sense. Any conduct that earns disapproval will get you punishment. In other words pain. Got that?"

She nodded, keeping her head down, and her eyes downcast. She wasn't expecting anything else, and what Flame was telling her now was simply confirming what she already anticipated. Good work would mean rewards, where as bad work would mean punishment. She remained silent, waiting for Flame to tell her what would happen next, and how she would be required to prove herself.

Flame stretched. "As with any idiot who thinks they can make it here, you have to pass a test...though I'm sure you expected that so let's not make me give you a long-winded speech. All you have to do is fight a respected member of Lord Amett's team. Hold your own and you're in. Lose and see the consequences."

"That sounds reasonable, do you know who I will be fighting." She privately wondered whether she would be fighting someone she had heard of, or some complete stranger. Maybe they would be a shifter too, and have the same advantages she had, or maybe they would simply be good with a weapon. Her hand shifted to her blade again. She brushed her fringe out of her eyes. She had been careful not to show her shifting abilities, staying firmly Sunca, maybe she could use them as a suprise. Her ability wasn't as flexible as some others, she had to return to her Sunca form between every shift, although her shifts were almost instanteneous so it wasn't really a problem.

Flame thought for a moment or two then cracked her talons much like a person would crack her knuckles. "I'll pay a quick visit to Lord Amett...then you and I shall have a fight. We shall see how well you can hold up against me. You don't have to win, I don't expect you to beat me or even come close, just don't die."

"I wasn't planning to. It seems like a lot to give up, life." She laughed softly, before slipping down onto the floor, and tucked her legs behind her. The blade lay along her leg, and her hand remained on the handle. "I shall wait here," she said.

"Very well," Flame replied. She turned tail and began to walk down a hallway she had been down hundreds of times, no doubt, to the familiar chamber belonging to Amett. The flash of silver disappeared from sight as even her metallic scales were swallowed up by the darkness within the base.

Star looked around from where she was sitting, peering into the darkness that surrounded her. She pushed her hair out of her eyes again, and moved her hand to the hollow in her neck, feeling the charm that was sitting there. Again she felt the tendrils of dark magic and pulled them gently, just enough to feel that rush of power that she loved so much. She felt confident, and stood slowly, standing upright but cat-like, ready to pounce. She waited silently for Flame's return.

A while later the familiar footsteps of Flame echoed through the hallway. However, this time a thin woman came out of the shadows. The only thing that made it obvious who she was were her two bright golden eyes. "I have returned," she announced, watching Star carefully. Her voice was also the same, but a little less deep than her dragon form. "Are you prepared?"

"What weapons may I use?" Star asked, a thin smile playing about her lips.

"Any you chose. The point of the battle is to show off any prowess and experience you may have. I request you keep your magic to a non-lethal level, same with any physical attacks. We wouldn't want any accidents."

Star unsheathed her sword, and felt for tendrils of dark magic. She reached deep inside her and felt them bubbling to the surface. She drew on their strength as she waited for Flame to make the first move. Her left hand was clenched around the hilt of the sword, and she held it infront of her, with her right hand touching the side of the blade.
