The Golden Stacks rise out of the water to the east of the main island of Tengal. It is mostly deserted, but eight Kitsune live there at any one time. These Kitsune are the Quental, the village magicians, that organize the security of the island and protect their own village. There is one for each village.
The Golden Stacks are jagged against the horizon. There are sudden cliffs around the whole land mass, plunging into the sea. Years of erosion from the wild waves has left the rock mainly smooth, but there are deep striations where other rocks have been hurled against the walls by the power of the ocean. There is only one way onto the flat land at the top, where the Quental live, unless you are both an amazing swimmer and an astonishing climber or you can fly, and that is by boat. There is a tiny staircase carved into the rock on the far side of the island from Tengal, and it leads up to the edges of the sand. However, there are charms carved into the stairs to ensure that no-one can approach uninvited.
The golden stacks are large enough that the eight houses are well out of sight of one another, and not just hidden by obstacles. There is soft golden sand around the cliff tops. Walking inward from the edge, you will first see the beginnings of marram grass beginning to grow, the curled green leaves reaching up out of the sand. Slowly the terrain begins to change. The land is sloped up hill, and slowly more grass forms. The landscape here is dotted with small shrubs and rocks, and has a rugged beauty. Further in, the shrubs grow larger, and cover much larger areas of ground. Eventually you will find yourself in a forest.
This forest does not have a clear boundary. The transition between it and the rugged landscape before is barely noticeable. The trees here a deciduous, casting their leaves in the autumn and the stacks adopted a wonderful red coating. There are fruit trees with an elegant blossom in the spring, and soft birches and beaches. There are also many great and ancient oaks that stand as majestic kings among the other trees.
Right in the middle of the island is a small hill, upon which sits the Quental Meeting Hall. It seems to sit precariously upon it, and is very visible from the main island. The hill is in a clearing, but there are trees scattered upon it, especially at the top around the centre of the magic. This is where the oldest and grandest of the trees are situated. You can read more about the Quental and the Meeting Hall here.

From the top of the walls of the Meeting Hall, you can just see the sea in all four directions, but this view is lost as you walk down into the forest.
