In the land of Amaru, four prominent holidays also act as ways to mark time. They are the spring equinox, also known as the Newbirth, the summer solstice, also known as the Day of the Brightsun, the autumn equinox, also known as Leaffall, and the winter solstice, also known as Darkest Night. It is not certain who started the holidays, but signs point to the Saplus, since the methods used to determine the day of the holidays use the Sacred Forest.
Darkest Night: The winter solstice is marked when a thick candle designed to burn through most Amaru nights cannot last from the twilight to the dawn, marking the longest night of the year. The celebrations are held the next day, which are mostly celebrated by races like the Shadrals, Daemonarzo, and the Sunca, which hunt better by darkness. Celebrated: Winter Solstice
How they are celebrated: As each sign is found, the celebrations begin. Many people hold banquets, tournaments, and other events to celebrate. Many farmers abandon their work for the day, and apprentices are released for the day. Some continue with their work, but many do not. Instead, most of the population plunges into games, competitions, and other events which vary by year and region.
