Again and again it flashed, hitting in all directions with sharp stings. "Yes," Sumi snarled.

Tansa couldn't take it any more. She tried hard not to give in but she wasn't quick enough to attack Sumi in return without being struck, and the whip tearing at her back repeatedly was more than she could stand. Whining softly, she slowly backed down, ears flattened and tail dragging the ground. Please stop... she thought, looking up at Sumi with watering eyes as she held back tears.

Sumi paused and she held the whip steadily. "You done?" she asked coldly, ignoring Tansa's hurt eyes.

"Yes..." Tansa mewed reluctantly. She held her gaze but stayed completely still apart from shaking, showing no signs of aggression.

She lowered her hand, folding the whip in the process. She put it back into her pocket, though it was clear by now that Sumi could pull it out in a split-second again to defend herself. Not only did she have the whip now, but also the sword at her hip.

Tansa mewed quietly but said nothing more. Looking down, she walked slowly past Natsumi to stand behind her, waiting for the girl to take the lead and choose a direction to go. Tansa would follow.

Sumi turned her head and then started walking in a chosen direction, the opposite of the way they had started through the forest. Though it was easy to get lost in here it was just as easy to follow animal tracks. Certain animals needed water and food as well as sunlight even though they lived in a place of darkness. The easy way out was to just follow the lead.

Tansa followed silently, staying close behind. She noticed the tracks as well, seeing mostly the tiny footprints of Mousaokits and Fehrra. The forest around them seemed to go on forever and she wondered if they'd ever find the way out. How did I end up trapped with her... she's mean...

Finally I get some respect. Hmph. Maybe the stupid cat will listen to me from now on... It'll be a good thing. We're less likely to get killed by Lord Amett that way. Natsumi thought as she walked, crunching dark dirt under foot. She noticed a set of tracks that seemed to stop and blinked. "Mousaokits can't fly..." she muttered aloud, confused.

Tansa looked over the tracks. "Something could have eaten it, genius. Anything with wings could have easily swooped down and picked the thing up. Probably just a hawk."

I know something can eat it and probably did...but there's always something bigger that eats predator as prey. she thought, annoyed. Sumi ignored Tansa's comment other than her thoughts and started to walk again.

Tansa kept walking, keeping close to Natsumi. I doubt she knows where we're going. Probably going to get us more lost.

Hearing wingbeats overhead, she looked up in time to see a litalin soaring just before it turned invisible. It had been coming from the direction they were moving towards, from open skies. They were on the right track at least.

What is that thing? Tansa thought. She saw the bird for only a split second before it disappeared from sight, though she could still hear its wings until it was far off. Looking ahead again, it seemed as though the forest was getting slightly lighter. "Are we almost there?"

"The litalin came from this direction. It needs open air if it wants to hunt, they don't do well in enclosed places like this. We're going the right way..." Sumi said, pausing. She was silent for a while longer until she spoke. "As for timeframe? Who knows in a place eternally dark."
