Description: The phoenix is one of the greatest creatures in Amaru. They say that it was rewarded by the Goddesses for it's loyalty with a form of immortality. They are incredibly rare, there can only be one phoenix in the world at a time. It is a giant bird, about the size of an elephant, that resembles a harmonious cross between a swan, hawk, and peathingy. It is benevolent and likes to help when it can. An adult phoenix's feathers are made of fire though they are special in that they don't burn, some even say that the flames of the phoenix can heal even the incurable. The phoenix spend it's life in two stages, hatchling and adult. Once the adult dies it's ashes scatter and the wind regroups them at a new location. The new phoenix is a hatchling whose form is different based on the region. In Seido it resembles an ostrich like bird; in Hoku it resembles something penguin-like; in Azuma it resembles a Heron; in Minami it resembles a large hawk; In Chukaan it is an owl like bird; in Canis it is an eagle; and in Tengal it is a seagull like bird. The Phoenix has no memories from it's last life and spends it's hatchling stage learning of the world. Then one day it's amnesia breaks and it's memories flood back. On this day it has matured and in a ball of fire it transforms into an adult. When and how long this takes is unique to each phoenix. The Phoenix spends most of it's adult life in flight, coming down every so often to rest and eat. Though it has talons it is a vegetarian. The phoenix, though peacful, can be a powerful fighter. When enraged it's flames become burning and can ravage an opponent. No one has seen the phoenix since the rise of Amett. Some believe he found a way to slay the bird while others think it flies around the world, searching for the heroes and waiting for the final battle. Whatever the story, it is assumed that Amett has soldiers searching for it so it can never participate.
Babies: one, once it dies it's ashes scatter and reform in a new location into the new phoenix.
Location: Unknown
Other: The Phoenix is both semi imortal and semi invincible. It can't be killed by disease, poison, and most magic. Nor does it seem age. They can be killed by physical combat or powerful magic, though no one has ever sought out too before Amett. They do die in time, usually in a millinum(1000yrs) or so after maturing. When it does die it is reincarnated into a new phoenix. There are no phoenix eggs. It is rumored that the flame of a phoenix won't go out until it dies, even if the feathers are molted which happens every 200 yrs. It is said that the Phoenix and Dragons are close friends, knowing secrets of one another that none else in the world do.
