Earth elementals live under the Amber Desert, shifting through the sands to avoid the hot sun. Their village is located deep under the desert made of sand they compressed into rock. It is protected by the shifting sands above, only reached by hidden tunnels. These can be covered by large dunes, though some wall in tunnels while journeying. Earth Elementals make it a point to help lost desert travelers. The roofs use magic to keep sand from collapsing in on the tunnels but not beings.
They can turn their bodies into any form of rock or crystal by touching it. Their bodies will retain that rock until another is absorbed. The more times they absorb a certain rock, the faster their bodies make the change to it. They may also control any rock that their body is comprised of if it is near. The downfall is that they're bodies are only as strong as the rock their made of, causing them to often to carry around pebbles of preferred rocks for quick transformations.
They mostly eat various desert plants and the occasional meat, though their bodies can go much longer without food or water than other elementals. Their elemental form is whatever rock they absorb, most commonly compressed sand from the desert. In their elemental form, they can actually break apart their body and fuse it with the earth around them. This means they can communicate or do things over long distances. However if the rock changes any the body part won't go farther so it works best in solid rock rather than soil. Also, if the body part is removed for more than 10 minutes then it is as good as severed. In Elemental form earth can be compressed into a mock limb but it would disappear in humanoid form and wouldn't work quite as well.
The village is led by a five member council, each member being at least 200 years in age. Their trade is art. Some of the world's best statues come from their village. They sell and trade these for necessities they can't find in the desert. Art is also the youths right of passage. They must train they're skills then make an original masterpiece and present it in an annual ceremony.
