Star alighted on a branch, in the form of a little serpentine dragon. She had purple scales, and dark indigo eyes. She fluttered her wings, examining the woodland around her and thankful that the sun was just rising, although she wasn't afraid of any of the creatures in the wood. She was slightly annoyed that she had been given a task she suspected Amett gave to a lot of newcomers, because there was little chance that they would succeed. Well she would have to prove him wrong.
She jumped off the branch, and changed in the air, landing as a Zairen on the forest floor. She was glad of her speedy and smooth transitions, as they gave her even more control.
She bared her teeth, and twitched her tail, making sure that all the muscles were where she expected them to be. She had never had a situation where something had gone wrong yet, but she had heard of it happening. There were stories of people who had tried to become a bird after leaping off a cliff only to find they had no wings, or people who had become fish with no gills. She was confident she had better control than that.
She padded towards the ruins, looking for people who were looking for the Stone Legend. At least she'd be able to tell which people were heroes, because she could use her magic to check.

There were no footsteps yet...no sign of anyone arriving. If they weren't there now all that could be left to do was to wait out the night until the sun brought its warmth upon the stones. The only sign of life, though not of people, were the wingbeats and other sounds of the forest surrounding the ruins.

Star lay down and curled up. She would wait for someone, creature or animal, to come along.

A howling sounded nearby as a figure lurked around through the underbrush. It had an easy target...or at least thought it did. By the low growling it wasn't friendly. What do you do?

Star remained motionless, but her hand moved slowly towards the blade. She was glad of the new magic it was enchanted with. She kept her ears open to listen for the movement.

The movement stopped and then all of a sudden started again. The creature was circling her in careful, calculated motions. It knew how to hunt and it knew it well. This thing, whatever it was, didn't plan to give up until the cost was too great.

Star smiled. A slight challenge, something that she might possibly have to think about. She waited, not ready to move yet.

The creature stopped circling and growled low, a flash of movement behind it suggesting the twitching of a tail as it prepared to spring. The only thing visable from this creature was its two bright ice blue eyes.

Star almost laughed, tensing her body ready to roll exceptionally quickly, left or right, depending on which way the creature sprung.

It didn't leap, rather waited for her. It knew she would be ready since she had known its presence... extremely intelligent.

Star stopped, collapsing all her muscles as if something had happened to her. She lay on the floor, completely relaxed, focusing on making her breathing seem slow and unnatural.

The creature emerged from the shadows to look. It was a huge dire wolf, covered in battle scars and with torn ears. It had a matted coat of a silver colour. It narrowed its ice blue eyes and watched her cautiously.

She lay still, thinking and breathing slowly. She concentrated on appearing in difficulties.

The wolf growled and moved closer, its teeth bared. It was either ready to eat or to kill depending on how good Star faked her current status. In either case, the huge wolf that should only have been on the island of Canis was moving in.

Star continued to fake, falling completely still, as if dead. She knew that to any observer she would look completely still, as it had saved her in situations before, and probably would again.
