" Well when you consider that every time a story is retold it becomes a little obscured from what was told before." Des said " Considering that I'd say there is some truth if you dig deep enough. I think it would be better to ask an elder of a race with a long lifespan, that's as close as you'll get to the original. As for the powers, I'll give you an Elemental answer for that. The world likes to stay in balance, if a loss of energy upsets it then it will recycle it into something that will balance. Whenever a hero dies a large amount of energy is displaced, so to restore the balance the world circulates it into someone of the next generation. Though the energy is provided, the individual must figure out how to harness it and use it. Help much?"

"Interesting..." Esse nodded in agreement. Her eyes kept fluctuating their colours as different emotions of and levels of curiosity flowed through her mind. "So the races are chosen at random...? But I've heard village Elders often know when the child is going to be one of the heroes. I believe the Thunderblizzard one did when it was Malon who became the one for Hoku. I've heard Kit and Arhu knew too."

" The mysterious ways of our elders, they have ways of knowing." Des said with a far off look. " They have the wisdom that comes with age. Would you put it past them to have their own way of sensing the flow of energy?" Des remembered the elders of his father's village and the elder chief who led his nomadic kin of wind. He smiled as he looked back on the times when he would listen to the old Elemental tales and teachings past down to each generation.

"It's amazing," She nodded. "But somehow I just still wonder exactly how. I guess it isn't my place to question near everything and know...but I can't help it. I'm just curious I suppose."

"Curiosity is not a problem, the way you satisy it holds that potential." Des said. " I once was curious about where the volcano vents in the Enra led and ended up on the other side of Amaru."

The Pegicorn laughed and shook his head, deciding to go up and have a look. He pushed off the ground with his hind legs and and flapped his broad wings, pushing up into the sky. He circled above the trees, seeing the river. I can see the river, the river is going west right? We want to go North... He landed again. We go this way, but we have to cross the river...

"Does it look very wide?" Des asked. " It shouldn't be to hard to cross but if it's too wide we might leave ourselves very exposed in enemy territory. Any bridge close by?"

Essetai shook her head. "I don't think there is a bridge anywhere, Des... that river is normally just crossed however somebody can manage."

"Well I can fly across and you can mount Akihiko so crossing isn't a problem." Des said. " I guess it doesn't matter so much anymore. You'll have to cross first though."

I'm not sure I'm strong enough to carry Esse yet. The pegicorn was still a foal, and still very slender. Maybe I can take a rope across...

" That would work provided Esse can climb across." Des said. " Sorry for automatically volunteering you there. Do you have a rope long enough?"

Esse shook her head. "Sorry, no rope... You wouldn't happen to have any on you, would you?" She considered and sighed. If he had asked he didn't have any. "Maybe there's something else we can use around here like a strong vine or something. Improvisation may help us."

Improvisation is often nessecary in tricky spots. We'll find something. Shall we keep moving

"Worse comes to worse we'll try cutting one of these trees into a quick bridge." Des said. "Till then I say we move on. Maybe if we pass it up we'll stop by mother's stash, it has tons of useful stuff."

Mother's stash? The Pegicorn asked curiously.
