Desumo paid attention and soon agreed. " It must of went in a different direction, I guess we can ease up a bit." He said. Desumo relaxed a little but decided to keep an eye out for anything else.
" A bit of darkness won't hurt. How about when it's time for you to recharge I'll cast my own Sparks?"

"Sounds good." She nodded. "It'll give us a chance to rest equally. When you need to relax I'll use the spell... but of course only when we need it. At the moment things seem to have calmed over. Though, I believe firmly in the calm before the storm so we're not out of it yet."

" Who knows, maybe that noise was the storm. Though I doubt that." Desumo said as he sat back down. He drew his sword and began to polish it.
" So what do you think it was that made all the racket?"

"Not sure... some kind of animal seems likely. It could be one Amett created since this place has fallen to him." Esse shrugged. "Whatever it was, it's not good. I don't think it was the storm."

"Your probably right." Desumo said. He finished off his sword and sheathed (sp?) it.
Desumo began to search for a new subject. "So, ever tried searching for shards?"

Essetai perked up at the word 'shards'. She shook her head. "Never. I hope to find one though. It'll be one less Amett can call his own, one less giving him his power. He shall not gain the strength of the gods like he intends."
She looked around, trying to let her sharp eyes see into the illuminated bit of forest but finding herself not seeing anything of interest. "What about you?"

Desumo sighed, " As much as i hate to say it, I too search for them to gain the power of the gods. " Then he added quickly. " But for good intentions." Desumo didn't like the fact that he and Amett had a similar goal but it couldn't be helped.
" I wish to create a sky village for the Wind Elementals. But that power is beyond any Elemental, so I search for the shards so I can have the power to create such a place."

Esse shrugged. "Who's to say what good or evil is these days? Amett's choice impacts everyone every day and yet some still side with what he is doing... However I think your goal doesn't sound quite as bad as his. You wish to create, not destroy. It fits in with my wish to stop his destruction. How about we work together?"

Desumo smiled. " That sounds real good to me. Up till now the only other people I've worked with have been shifty characters whose info ultimately led me to dead ends. It would be nice to have a to have a friend as a partner for once." He said. " I have to say though, in years of searching I still haven't found one shard. These ruins are my only lead at the moment."

"Chances are your right." Desumo said. " But now it's a sure fire thing. We'll not only expose the secrets of these ruins but find our first jewel, all in probably no time at all." Desumo looked at the ruins and had a curious thought.
"Hey, why was this place built anyway?"

"It used to be a prison." Essetai explained. "People from all over kept being brought to the Chuukan Prison Camps, taken away from their families and friends. I'm not sure why. It was a story I didn't like to hear much." Her tail twitched a little and she frowned. "Even some of the heroes were detained there at one point."

Desumo's smile quickly faded. " I never would have guessed this place would have such a tragic past." He said. " When the it was abandoned, what became of it's prisoners?" Desumo was liking the ruins less with every passing hour it seemed.
" I suspect I'll despise this place with all being by the time we leave." He thought.

"I believe they returned home... many escaped throughout time. However, others may have gotten trapped or been unable for some reason. I suspect a few prisoners were too old to travel while others just didn't have the will to leave. Perhaps some even fell prey to Amett and his creatures on the journey back. I'm not sure. Whatever occurred, there isn't much sign of them." Essetai replied with a frown.

"Getting a chance to go home was a surprise ending to me." Desumo said. " I would have expected the warden to have done something along the lines of a mass execution. Not often you find that these days, though your probably right about most not making it back in one piece."
Desumo couldn't help but wonder how many prisoners' lost souls walk the ruins and surrounding area.
