Star picked the puppy up and moved it closer to the tree. Then she shortened the length of rope, so the puppy couldn't move more than 2 meters away from the tree. She started to build a fire a couple of meters further away, ignoring the puppy.

Star laughed. It had a temper, that was sweet. She finished her food and then packed everything away again. She walked over to the pup and held it's head between her hands. She looked it directly in the eyes. "I'm boss, I eat first. Then we wait. Then you, later." She slapped it's muzzle to stop the growling. "And if you complain while I'm eating again, you won't get anything at all."

Star pushed the dog away, and went back to the fire, lying on her back and looking at the stars. Maybe something would come tonight, but she doubted it. She was ready to wait. She remained still for half an hour, thinking and staring at the few stars she could see through the canopy. She then rolled over and pulled the meat out of her pack, leaving a steak just out of the reach of the puppy. She went back to her position by the fire.
