She snarled louder, snapping her teeth at Star's hand. She let out a little howl of anger as well, her personality as a wolf and not a pet showing through.

Star cut a small piece of rope off the end of the other one, and tied it round the pups muzzle, forcing it shut. She packed the meat away again and lay down by the fire. She knew the pup could think, it had said something earlier.

The puppy snarled for a while but it grew tired of trying to force sound out the corners of its mouth and simply continued to glare at her. Ebil.

"I'll let you go. All you have to do is ask."

No. the wolf pup refused. She wasn't very wordy since she didn't want to speak at the moment. No. she repeated for emphasis.

Star shrugged, and rolled over falling to sleep by the fire.

The puppy whined in the back of her throat and curled up, her stomach still empty. She still refused to break her wolf pride and give in to demands though.

Star slept through the night, waking up when the sun rose. The fire beside her was little more than embers. She looked across and the wolf pup, sitting up and crossing her legs. She pulled the last few potatoes out of the embers and began eating breakfast.

The pup was still sleeping, laying on her stomach with her body stretched out. She kept kicking her hind leg every once in a while but other than that it didn't seem like she was going to be waking up soon.

Star walked over to the puppy, and kicked it gently with her foot to get the pup to wake up. "Time to get up, we have to go. We need to keep walking."

She turned her head and got up, not having the ability to snap at Star's foot. She looked up at Star, now feeling her hunger.

Star packed up and then untied the chord, pulling the puppy to its feet. She began a brisk walk further into the ruins, looking for a place where she could stay for a couple of days. "You just have to ask," she said to the puppy.

She followed at Star's side, starting to understand how things worked. Can I have food? she asked. She was much more articulate than she had let on before, probably signalling she wasn't a very young puppy after all but actually closer to being a very young adult dire wolf.

Star smiled, and nodded. "We will stop her." She stopped and slipped off her pack, getting out some meat. She knelt down and took the rope off the puppy muzzle. She put the meat directly infront of the pup, and scratched it behind the ears. "There you go."

She quickly ate the meat, uncaring where it came from anymore. She had accepted her mother's death. She had also accepted the facts that Star was boss and that her hunger needed to be satisfied. Now what? she questioned when done.
