She curled up as best as she could to avoid moving too much and watched, waiting for Star's return. As before she accepted the fact that Star gave the orders and was to be obeyed.

Star looked over at the wolf. It excepted her as boss now. Let it sleep. It wasn't like anything was going to happen. Many hours later, Star started to get restless. She stood at the cave mouth and watched the sun set, throwing the forest into pretty colours. She started another fire, still not having moved the wolf, and then started meat and carrots cooking. She went to loosen the wolves bonds a little, letting it move further into the cave so it could sit by the fire.

The wolf opened one eye and noticed she had less pressure on her neck. She stood and stretched before she moved closer to the fire to warm up her fur now that it was starting to become evening. However she laid down and watched Star cook. Throwing a fit the other day hadn't been smart so she didn't do it again. She was a fast learner.

Star ate her food, slowly but surely, glad to see that the wolf was behaving. She packed her food away again and sat by the warmth of the fire. There was a slight hole in the pack where Star hadn't closed it properly, and it was well within the reach of the wolf. Star leaned against the wall and closed her eyes, breathing heavily.

She sniffed, smelling the meat. However she didn't make a grab for it. Can I eat again? she questioned after remembering the easy way to get food was to ask. In fact it was the only way.

Star lay still. Not yet she thought, wondering if the animal could understand her thoughts they way she could hear its.

She tilted her head. You thought-spoke.

You do it. Why shouldn't I be able to?

I thought only animals could... my Mom said only we could. None of us can do both except the Hero of Canis. she explained. She still didn't quite recognise the aura of darkness around Star.

Speak out loud and thought-speak. You never heard of the Hero of Canis?

No. Now I'm going to sleep. Be quiet. Star rolled over and eventually her breathing slowed.

She shrugged then curled up as well. However she didn't go to sleep. She waited and listened, trying to hear in advance if anyone was coming. Looking up at the dark sky she noticed the moon and frowned. Her thoughts were now private. ...That girl is terrible. She killed Mother...she also would kill me if she didn't want me.

An hour later, Star sat up, and pulled a piece of meat out of the pack. Sealing it up properly. She left it just out of the wolf's reach, waiting for the inevitable question.

Now can I eat? she asked. She didn't shift her attention to Star's movements but she could smell the meat and it tempted her. Being a dire wolf she had a large apatite.
