Sumi shouted several strands of cursewords, all in different languages after being hit. As usual it ended in 'shista' and insults directed to Tansa.
DG rolled his eyes. That girl...she has anger management issues.

Tansa glanced back at Natsumi. "You deserved that." Then she looked to DG. "We must be getting close by now... Will we make it before the next sunrise or will we have to stop again and waste even more time?"

DG nodded. "We should be out of the desert before that happens. We're nearly there already."
"How do you know? You're just as useless as Tansa." Natsumi muttered.
"I wouldn't say that," Ivy giggled, "she's the one holding you up in the air."

"That's right, I could drop you at any time if I felt like it." She tilted swiftly, not far enough for Natsumi to fall, but maybe just enough to startle her.

Sumi rolled her eyes. "Whatever," she mumbled...though she knew Tansa was completely right.
DG suddenly grinned which was hard to do with a beak so it was more like just opening his mouth. "We're really close...smell that? It's the smell of a volcano."

"I don't smell anything. You're going crazy," she muttered as she looked ahead into the darkness, trying to see any signs of the volcano being nearby.

It isn't my fault you probably never took the time to travel around Amaru, Tansa. You wouldn't know the smell of a volcano even if you had lived in one. Your nose is too dull. DG thought to himself, complaining. "Well then keep an eye out for ash or something. It's a volcano. It shouldn't be too hard to spot if you can't smell it."
Natsumi stretched. "This argument is pathetic. It's a waste of time to compare your senses. Whichever one of you morons thinks you know where to go then find the stupid rock and move!"
Ivy just sighed. She sniffed the air, trying to scent the ash. Faint, so we are closer then we we're..

Even in the darkness, the faint outline of the volcano was becoming visible against the night sky. That must be it... Unless there's randomly a new mountain in Amaru.

"Oh look, a giant rock," DG said sarcastically. "That just couldn't be the volcano."
"Shut up, Shifter. We're nearly there. We don't need to hear your sarcastic remarks." Natsumi snarled.
Ivy thought for a moment. "About a hour or a few and we'll be there..." She said looking ahead.
"Wrong," Natsumi snorted. As usual... "It'll only take us-"
"Sumi I remind you that Ivy is the smarter one."
"You're so lucky I can't reach you to hit you right now..." Natsumi muttered.

"Won't the sun be rising in a few hours? We better not have to stop and waste another day waiting for night to come again..."

"We're close enough now that we won't have to. I don't know about you but I can stay up long enough to reach the volcano for sure. Besides, once we get even closer the night or day won't matter anymore. It'll be just as hot either way," DG explained with a quick shrug so he wouldn't lose any altitude from it.
Natsumi was silent for once. Great...heat. I hate heat. What I wouldn't give to go for a swim right now...nice cold water- NO! You are not soft. You're not a wimp. Even though she was only thinking her eyes darkened and a smirk curled on her lips. And you would do anything if you could rid yourself of these fools...take the glory and power for yourself.

"I just hope we find that legend fast so we can get out of there. I hate the desert and I hate volcanoes. I'd rather take a mission to the highest mountain in Hoku," she complained.

For once we agree... Sumi thought, though she kept her thoughts to herself. However...how nice would it be to watch that lava devour your flesh in moments? How nice to hear your cries for mercy before you touch the red-hot surface? Oh I cannot wait to enjoy your pain.
DG sighed. "Well one thing is for sure...it won't be fun. If we run into the Roca I'll be able to shift into one and go through the lava but otherwise we might have obstacles. Any idea what kind of other animals live out here?"
"Well, its called a Mutah... Its pretty big and muscular. It looks sort of like a dog but its red so it can blend in with the surroundings of where it lives. It has two eyes, and it has no tail but a little stub. It can resist high temperatures, so it's useful for our situation. DG, have you or Tansa heard of it? It's quite the animal," Ivy said.

"Mutah? You just made that up, didn't you?" Tansa questioned, having never heard of the creature. "I don't know any animals that live out here."

"I've been here before but I've never taken the time to go inside the volcano. It wasn't my assignment at the time. So I never saw this...Mutah...dog thing before, sorry Ivy," DG replied. What the CRUD is a Mutah? he asked Ivy. Did you seriously make that up or is it real? ...I mean I know you said it was a dog thingie but did you just say that to shut Tansa up?
Sumi muttered something under her breath. "...ank'ri dreak Mutah..." was the only understandable phrase. She'd kept her voice low so Ivy wouldn't try to decipher her words.
It's real! She snapped at DG. You'll see. They live in burrows in the moutain. I"ll show you guys. They aren't too friendly though.Ivy replied.
